Best Gaming Mousepads Compared: Sten's Take

Sten @ THREEPOINTZERO
Sten @ THREEPOINTZEROReview Writer · Mousepad opinions

If you ask me what the best gaming mousepad is, my answer is almost always the same: it depends how fast you want it. I've spent a lot of hours on cloth and glass pads, swapping between control and speed, and these are the ones I keep coming back to — Artisan Zero first, our own ERA right under it at the same tier, then LGG Saturn Pro, Artisan Hien and Type-99, X-raypad Aqua Control, SteelSeries QcK and glass pads.

Quick verdict

Scores are mine. Sorted strongest first — Artisan Zero on top, ERA right under it at a full 5, then the rest by score.

Pad Price My scoreScore Speed I'd pick it forPick
Artisan Zero (Soft) $$$ Balanced All-rounder, CS2 & Valorant
THREEPOINTZERO ERA $ Control (limited editions: faster) Artisan-level quality at a fraction of the price
LGG Saturn Pro $$ Balanced-control Players coming from a slow pad
Artisan Hien $$$ Fast Tracking players who want speed
Artisan Type-99 $$$ Control Tactical FPS, max stopping power
X-raypad Aqua Control II $$ Fast-ish Value speed
SteelSeries QcK $ Control Budget control
Glass pads (e.g. Skypad) $$$ Very fast Speed enthusiasts who already know they want glass

Control vs speed: pick your lane first

My first rule is always the same: decide on speed before you obsess over brand. Control pads let you stop precisely on target, which is what I prefer for CS2 and Valorant. Speed pads cut friction for tracking-heavy games and aim trainers. Balanced pads sit in between. If you're unsure which lane you're in, start with our control vs speed mousepad guide.

Cloth vs glass

Glass pads are the fastest and very consistent in my experience, but I wouldn't call them a safe first buy. They feel completely different, cost more, and chew through skates faster — so if you go glass, pair them with suitable skates (see PTFE vs glass skates). For most people I still start with cloth.

My picks, by use case

Best all-rounder: Artisan Zero

The Zero Soft is my reference pad. Balanced glide, solid stopping power, Japanese build quality. It's the one I'd blind-buy if I had to start over. Caveats from my side: it's pricey, the cloth can trap hair, and in humid rooms I sometimes find it a bit rough on the skin.

Best balanced-control: LGG Saturn Pro

Saturn Pro is the pad I'd hand someone who wants premium feel without going full Artisan money. Easy to start moving, smooth and controlled. If I want "a little faster" I reach for a Zero; "a lot faster" and I'm on a Hien.

Best for speed and tracking: Artisan Hien, Aqua Control II

Hien is much faster and more abrasive than Zero in my hands — I wouldn't jump straight to it from a slow pad. Aqua Control II is the budget, durable alternative I like for tracking when I don't want to spend Artisan money.

Best budget control: SteelSeries QcK

I still respect the QcK for precise, specific stopping, and a lot of pros grew up on it. For me the drawbacks are durability and how much humidity messes with it — that's why it sits at a 3.

Where ERA fits: Artisan quality, banger price

Honest take: ERA from THREEPOINTZERO plays in the same quality tier as Artisan — smooth, consistent control surface, anti-slip base, stitched edges that don't fray into a mess. That's why it gets a full 5 from me and sits right under Artisan Zero in the table. The difference is the price: Artisan sits at $$$, ERA at $. For everyday FPS, CS2 and Valorant that's a banger. You're getting Artisan-level feel without paying Artisan money, which is why it's my best-value pick on this list.

Want something faster in the same family? The limited ERA #004 and ERA BUTTERFLY use a faster cloth profile with seamless edges. More detail in our budget gaming mousepad guide.

How I'd choose

  • Tactical FPS, low sens: a control or balanced-control cloth pad — I'd lean ERA for value, Saturn Pro / Type-99 / QcK if you want those specific feels.
  • Mixed games or unsure: a balanced pad (Zero, Saturn Pro) or a faster ERA limited edition.
  • Tracking and aim trainers: a fast cloth pad (Hien, Aqua Control II) before I jump to glass.
  • Budget: prioritise consistency, a non-slip base and good edges over brand name.
  • Tryhard / competitive-pro: skip the value lane — Zero Soft or Saturn Pro first, Type-99 if you want max control.

FAQ

What is the best gaming mousepad?

There isn't one winner for everyone. My safe all-rounder is the Artisan Zero Soft. My favourite value premium pad is the Saturn Pro. If you want Artisan quality without the Artisan price, I'd pick ERA — same tier as Artisan Zero above it in my ranking, for a lot less money.

Artisan vs QcK: which is better?

I'd take Artisan for consistency and durability. The QcK is cheaper and I still like its precise stopping, but I don't trust it as much long-term.

Is a glass mousepad better for FPS?

Not automatically. Glass is very fast and consistent, but I'd try cloth first unless you already know you want that glass feel.

What is the best mousepad for CS2 and Valorant?

I prefer control or balanced-control cloth for tactical shooters — ERA if you want Artisan-level quality for a lot less money, Saturn Pro / Type-99 / QcK / Zero if you want other feels.
